About the Role
Join Royal Mail as a Postal Delivery Driver based at the Ipswich Delivery Office (IP1 1AA) on a fixed-term contract of 12 months. This position involves delivering mail and parcels within the Ipswich community while working 37 hours per week on a rotating schedule across 5 days over a 7-day period, including Sundays. The shifts typically run from 07:15 to 15:15 or 12:45 to 20:00.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort letters and parcels at the delivery office efficiently.
- Deliver post using a Royal Mail van and on foot throughout your designated local area.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers.
- Operate outdoors in all weather conditions, ensuring timely and secure deliveries.
What You’ll Experience
- An active role involving walking long distances of up to 12 miles daily (over 20,000 steps).
- Daily driving of a Royal Mail van to complete delivery routes.
- Handling high volumes of parcels alongside letters, especially during peak periods.
- A fast-paced and physically demanding routine requiring resilience and organization.
Candidate Profile
- Possession of a full manual UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points, registered under current name and address.
- Ability and willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily, including passing a driving assessment.
- Physically fit to walk long distances, climb stairs or hills, and carry mailbags weighing 10kg or more.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently outdoors.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain resilience under pressure.
- Customer-focused attitude with pride in delivering excellent service.
