Role Overview
As the inaugural dedicated People Partner in our New York office of approximately 20 employees, you will have a pivotal role in shaping our People function locally while supporting our Customer organization—roughly 80 staff across Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto. Your focus during the initial 6 to 9 months will be enhancing management capability and employee experience within this client group, with potential expansion to other teams as the People Partner model evolves.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary People Partner for the Customer organization, cultivating robust relationships with leaders and managers across multiple locations.
- Coach leadership on performance management, constructive feedback, policy adherence, team dynamics, and conducting challenging employee discussions.
- Assist managers in preparing for significant conversations ensuring clarity, fairness, and fact-based communication.
- Manage early employee relations cases by collecting information, documenting concerns, assessing risks, and escalating as needed.
- Participate in performance reviews and exit procedures, ensuring professionalism and consistency.
- Deliver manager training, provide relevant tools, and offer ongoing support to embed effective leadership practices.
- Facilitate execution of performance, engagement, compensation, and People initiatives within the client group.
- Analyze trends in leadership effectiveness, morale, performance, and team health and convert these insights into actionable intelligence for organizational leadership.
- Support organizational changes, team transitions, and internal communications for your stakeholders.
- Partner with People Operations to ensure smooth onboarding, offboarding, leaves, policy inquiries, and employee lifecycle management.
- Establish a visible and influential People presence within the NYC office, enhancing connection and communication.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of our People Partner framework as company growth continues.

Required Experience and Skills
- 4 to 6 years of experience in roles such as HR generalist, People Partner, or equivalent.
- Proven ability to support managers directly on performance management and employee-related issues.
- Sound judgment to distinguish between independent handling and escalation of matters.
- Confidence in coaching managers, including those senior or more experienced.
- Experience in managing performance review cycles, employee exits, onboarding, and organizational change processes.
- Aptitude for building trust and relationships across distributed teams and time zones.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Pragmatic approach toward policies and organizational processes.
- Capacity to work autonomously while remaining integrated with a Toronto-based People team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as the pioneering People team member in a new office or location.
- Background supporting customer-centric departments such as Customer Success, Support, or Sales.
- Familiarity with founder-led or high-growth startup cultures.
- Experience delivering leadership and manager training programs.
- Proficiency using People analytics or engagement data to identify organizational trends.
- History of supporting cross-city teams (New York, Los Angeles, Toronto).
Additional Details
This position is hybrid but based primarily in New York City (3 days per week on-site at 30 East 23rd Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10010). Some travel to Los Angeles and Toronto will be necessary to build relationships and participate in People team initiatives.

Compensation
