About the Role and Company

This position is based at Banana Island Resort Doha By Anantara, under Minor Hotels, an international hotel operator with a diverse portfolio of over 530 properties worldwide across more than 50 countries. The company caters to a wide range of travelers with its various brands, including Anantara, Avani, and NH Hotels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review the next day's transfer and excursion schedule each evening, noting guest numbers, names, and special requests.
  • Prepare the boat according to trip requirements and operational procedures, ensuring availability of cold towels, beverages, seasick bands, and during rainy season, raincoats and towels.
  • Adhere to a comprehensive checklist before each trip to ensure all preparations are complete.
  • Coordinate meal provisions for crew members if meals are missed during trips, arranging with the Launch Section Manager or coordinator for food preparation or purchase at approved prices.
  • Ensure the boat and crew meet cleanliness, set-up standards, and are ready at the guest jetty 30 minutes before departure while adhering to grooming and uniform standards.
  • Maintain guest comfort and safety throughout all trips, attending to their needs effectively.
  • Comply with maritime laws and regulations set by the Ministry of Transport & Communication of the Republic of Maldives.
  • Keep the Sea Worthy certificate onboard and follow its requirements, while carrying the Captain’s License during all trips.
  • Conduct regular cleaning and maintenance checks, promptly reporting any issues to the Launch Section Manager or Coordinator and collaborating with engineering staff on repairs.
  • Maintain and construct anchor points and navigation lights as needed.
  • Take precautionary measures to ensure safety, including checking for fuel leaks, life jacket availability, and functional fire extinguishers.
  • Assess weather conditions and advise management if trips should be canceled or postponed.
  • Ensure the Boat Mobile phone and radio equipment are charged and operational during duty.
  • Coordinate effectively between airport hosts and resort operators regarding guest logistics and handle guest inquiries and complaints competently.
  • Report any onboard inventory shortages to the management and document incidents or disciplinary matters.
  • Collect guest feedback during trips to facilitate follow-up actions.
  • Participate actively in training programs and engage positively with the team and other departments to meet resort objectives.
  • Promote resort services to guests and colleagues, comply with health, safety, and environmental policies, and adhere to all workplace regulations.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the department or General Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience as a Patrol Boat Skipper.
  • Possession of a valid Oil Carrier Certification.
  • Proficient English communication abilities.
  • Strong technical aptitude related to boat operations and maintenance.
  • Good personal presentation and a friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations and multitask efficiently.
