About the Role
The Byrne Hotel Group is seeking a proactive and hospitality-oriented Night Manager to supervise the Night Porter team and manage various night-time hotel operations. This vital role includes preparing function and meeting rooms, maintaining cleanliness throughout the hotel, and actively participating in nightly tasks with a hands-on approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Dress professionally and ensure the Night Porter team is in proper uniform.
- Adhere strictly to all hotel policies and procedures.
- Train incoming night porters and assist with updating Standard Operating Procedures as needed.
- Record and communicate any issues encountered during the night shift to the day team.
- Accurately handle departmental and procedural accounting entries.
- Manage correct recording of function bills, wedding rooms, and room charges with accurate details and filing.
- Conduct full Night Audit processes, including system rollover and filing audit reports.
- Coordinate with front office, night teams, and other departments to resolve cross-departmental matters.
- Oversee smooth night shift front desk operations, handling customer service, calls, and late arrivals efficiently.
- Promote positive working relationships while maintaining high service standards.
- Ensure compliance with RSA regulations, including bar closing times and assisting bar staff when necessary.
- Supervise night porter duties, manage rostering and adherence to work hour directives.
- Report any maintenance issues to reception promptly.
- Complete legally required Fire and Safety Walks, reporting concerns to the day team.
- Ensure other night staff finalize their tasks timely and sign out properly.
- Maintain vigilance for security concerns and report suspicious activities immediately.
- Assist with manual work such as cleaning, vacuuming, moving furniture, and setting up meeting/function rooms.
- Answer switchboard calls professionally, addressing guests by name when applicable.
- Document issues from previous shifts or days and communicate recurring problems, guest complaints, and staff queries.
- Monitor late arrivals and new reservations, maintaining front desk standards.
- Collaborate with reception staff to fulfill customer requests promptly.
- Complete any reasonable tasks assigned by management.
Experience and Skills
- Ability to multitask and willingness to assist across all hotel areas as needed.
- Previous experience with hotel front office systems is advantageous.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capability to work both independently and in a team setting.
- Good personal presentation and keen attention to detail.
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required.
