About the Opportunity
A prominent company in the food processing industry is seeking a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor to join their dynamic team in Broadmeadows, VIC. This essential role is on the afternoon shift, supporting engineering and production managers to ensure the smooth operation and safety of a busy further processing plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the shift maintenance team, emphasizing adherence to strict plant safety protocols and overseeing daily inspections.
- Develop, implement, and oversee resource planning for preventive maintenance tasks using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Actively provide technical hands-on assistance for plant equipment troubleshooting, breakdowns, scheduled maintenance, and shutdown support (about 30% of the role).
- Guarantee maintenance and repairs are executed in compliance with OEM standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Oversee spare parts management, procurement processes, and sub-contractor relationships.
- Motivate and guide the team to consistently achieve established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Working Conditions and Offer Details
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, starting at 2pm, 8-hour shifts for a 38-hour workweek.
- Compensation: Hourly pay rate between $50–$55 plus a 15% shift loading and superannuation.
- Some weekend work is required, and overtime is available as per industry standards.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Trade certification as a Mechanical Fitter is mandatory.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership capacity within FMCG maintenance, preferably in the food production sector.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience as a maintenance fitter.
- Expertise in mechanical maintenance and advanced troubleshooting/diagnostics, especially on PLC-controlled automated equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP, GMP guidelines, and relevant Australian industry standards.
- Strong organizational skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Skills in fabrication, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding are highly desirable.
- Willingness to adjust shift times for team coverage as required.
- Experience with high-speed packaging lines, conveyors, sensors, and packers.
