Role overview

The Mechanical Engineer (Fire, Life & Safety) will support fire safety and fire engineering work across building and infrastructure projects. The position involves developing strategies, reviewing designs, and contributing technical solutions that meet relevant codes and project needs.

Key responsibilities

• Create fire safety strategies for projects across buildings and infrastructure sectors.
• Check design work against applicable standards and codes, and help develop both standard and custom performance-based fire engineering solutions.
• Carry out formal peer reviews of fire engineering outputs.
• Coordinate with internal and external technical teams to provide advice that best supports the project and client requirements.
• Deliver work within agreed timelines and budget limits.
• Ensure all deliverables meet the expected quality standards.

Candidate profile

The role reports to the Principal Engineer, GDI Fire & Life Safety lead, and the position is based in the Bangalore office.

Applicants should hold a degree in a relevant engineering or science field. Experience with fire and smoke modelling tools such as CFD, zone models, and evacuation models is considered useful.

The ideal candidate should have experience preparing fire strategies aligned with UK and international codes, along with working knowledge of performance-based fire engineering standards used in the UK and globally, including BS 7974 and NFPA 101. Familiarity with British Standards, NFPA, IBC, and similar international codes is also expected.

Strong English communication skills are needed for working with clients, colleagues, and project teams, along with excellent report-writing ability in English.
