Overview
This role demands leadership and execution of various cost reduction initiatives primarily in the areas of Stamping, Fabrication, Sheet Steel, Castings, and Forgings as part of a Direct Material Productivity team. The engineer will work collaboratively with the Global Procurement organization and product divisions to identify and implement significant cost savings opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise-wide strategic projects related to various commodities including stampings, fabrication, sheet steel, castings, and forgings in partnership with global procurement leaders.
- Implement strategic and operational plans focusing on Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), resourcing, negotiation, and part rationalization to meet cost reduction targets.
- Propose innovative, technically feasible, and commercially viable ideas to reduce product costs and enhance market competitiveness.
- Drive productivity improvements by consolidating suppliers, enhancing key data, and preventing unnecessary part proliferation.
- Develop reusable data analysis methods and knowledge assets to support ongoing and future projects.
- Engage in supplier discussions to generate cost-saving ideas and solutions.
- Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies early in product development to identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring robust products that meet customer specifications.
- Contribute to innovation through patent disclosures during new product development, VAVE, and problem-solving initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience working within a technical engineering environment, preferably in the mechanical industry.
- 0 to 1 year of relevant professional experience.
Additional Skills and Knowledge
The candidate should have strong analytical capabilities to examine commodity spend data, leverage data analytics, and apply ideation to source new project opportunities. In-depth understanding of electrical component design, application, and duty cycle characteristics is also essential. Ability to formulate design guidelines and develop testing protocols for these components is necessary.
