Role Overview
We seek a Mechanical or Mechatronics Design Engineer with 3 to 5 years of comprehensive product design experience to join our team full-time on-site in Victoria. This role encompasses a wide range of engineering responsibilities across the product lifecycle, from client consultation to volume production oversight and quality management.
Key Responsibilities
- Create 3D models and detailed drawings for bespoke actuator components requested by customers.
- Fabricate prototypes using 3D printing and machining techniques, then evaluate their performance as potential products.
- Utilize metrology tools for inspecting parts, adjusting tolerances, and refining production drawings accordingly.
- Conduct product performance and reliability testing.
- Design and assemble test rigs and fixtures used for incoming quality control assessments.
- Investigate actuator failures reported by customers to identify root causes and suggest quality enhancements.
- Engage with manufacturing partners in China to troubleshoot quality issues and implement improvements.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving aptitude.
- Collaborative team-oriented mindset.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a Technology Diploma accompanied by relevant experience.
- Preferential experience in small technology firms or related industries.
- Proficient in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation; training in CREO software available.
- Familiarity with various manufacturing processes including machining, turning, punching, and plastic injection molding.
- Knowledge of tolerances, inspection techniques, and metrology is advantageous.
- Desirable experience with PMDC and stepper motors.
- Experience with programming platforms such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with hand tools, milling machines, lathes, and 3D printers is considered beneficial.
- Skills in diagnosing and repairing electronics would add value.
- Fluent verbal and written English communication is required.
- Mandarin language skills would be an asset.
- Candidates must have legal authorization to work in Canada.
