About the company
Waipapa Pine, which operates within Fletcher Building, is a major timber processing business in Northland. With operations across Waipapa and Whangarei, the company focuses on delivering quality products efficiently and sustainably. The role
This is a full-time Mechanical Fitter position within the maintenance team at Waipapa. The role is centered on keeping sawmill machinery running reliably through fault diagnosis, repairs, and preventative maintenance to reduce downtime. The site is close to Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands and operates on a rotating shift roster that provides four-day weekends every second week.
Working hours
The roster is made up of two shift patterns:
- Monday to Thursday, 12:30 pm to 11:30 pm
- Tuesday to Friday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, plus Saturdays from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
Saturdays are paid at time and a half.
Key responsibilities
- Identify mechanical issues in sawmill equipment and carry out repairs
- Complete scheduled servicing and routine inspections
- Fit, install, and upgrade machinery when needed
- Work closely with maintenance and production colleagues
- Follow workplace health and safety requirements at all times
What we are looking for
- A Level 4 trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting
- At least 5 years of experience in sawmill or other heavy industrial settings, preferred
- Practical understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including the ability to interpret schematic drawings
- Good troubleshooting ability and a strong eye for detail
- Confidence working both independently and within a team
- Forklift OSH certification or F endorsement
- Comfort working at heights
- A strong commitment to safety
