As a Lab Assistant specializing in Specimen Processing located in London, Ontario, you will play a crucial part in handling and processing laboratory samples that influence critical patient care decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to established specimen processing procedures to ensure accuracy and quality control.
- Accurately identify, label, and enter data for all laboratory samples.
- Manage unsuitable specimens according to protocol to maintain sample integrity.
- Provide courteous and professional responses to client questions or issues.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Completion of secondary-level education along with certification from an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
- Proven ability to deliver outstanding customer service in high-pressure and ever-changing work environments.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and collaborate effectively within a team in a fast-paced setting.
- Intermediate competency in MS Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures enabling problem-solving and practical recommendations.
Preferred Experience
- Working knowledge of AS400 Data Entry systems or Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is an advantage.
Working Conditions
- Typical office and medical laboratory environments requiring regular walking and repetitive hand motions.
- Periods of prolonged sitting or standing with extensive computer use.
- Physical capability to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
- Exposure to biohazardous materials, varying temperatures, and background noise.
Compensation & Schedule
- This is a permanent, full-time position with guaranteed 37.5 hours each week.
- Work hours include evening shifts from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm Monday through Friday, and rotating Saturday shifts from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
- Hourly wage ranges from $19.75 to $23.50, determined based on experience and education.
