Junior Estimator

About the Role

BrandSafway is looking to hire a diligent and motivated Junior Estimator to join their team in Edmonton, Alberta. This position is an excellent entry point for recent graduates in engineering or engineering technology aiming to develop their careers in industrial construction and cost estimation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Examine Requests for Quotations (RFQs), technical drawings, specifications, and contract paperwork.
• Conduct material quantity takeoffs and prepare detailed cost estimates.
• Identify any scope gaps, risks, exceptions, or required clarifications in project documents.
• Support review of estimates and pricing assessments.
• Solicit and assess quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring follow-up on pricing and technical queries.
• Maintain relationships and records with suppliers related to estimating activities.
• Develop technical and commercial bid documentation and assist in preparing project schedules and execution strategies.
• Ensure complete and precise proposal submissions.
• Organize all estimate-related documentation and participate in estimate review sessions and project transition meetings.
• Contribute to enhancements of estimating tools, templates, and processes.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Science, or a diploma in Engineering Technology is required.
• Preferred disciplines include Mechanical Engineering or Technology and Civil Engineering or Technology; other related engineering fields may also be considered.
• Professional designation such as EIT with APEGA is preferred; candidates eligible to register as EIT are encouraged to apply.
• Applicants will have the opportunity to work under mentorship of a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).

Experience and Competencies

• Between none to three years of experience in areas such as estimation, engineering, project coordination, construction, manufacturing, or industrial settings.
• Internship or cooperative education experience is beneficial.
• Familiarity with technical drawings and specifications is advantageous.
• Exposure to industrial construction, refractory systems, and design software including SolidWorks or Inventor is a plus.
• Attention to detail, strong analytical skills, effective organization, time management, and problem-solving capabilities are essential.
• Clear written and oral communication skills, ability to interpret technical documentation, and self-driven work ethic are important.

Technical Proficiency

• Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Experience with SolidWorks or Inventor, Microsoft Project, ERP systems, and estimating software are beneficial assets.
