What began as a small operation has grown to support clients across the South Island, with the team now based in a dedicated Selwyn office. The practice also works closely with other architecture firms and construction businesses, providing extra support during peak workloads.
Role summary
ID Architecture is looking for an Intermediate Draftsman / Intermediate Architectural Designer to join its Rolleston team. This is an on-site role suited to someone with solid technical capability, strong coordination skills, and an interest in delivering quality architectural outcomes from early concepts through to final completion.
The position involves handling projects across the design and consent stages while collaborating with clients, consultants, local councils, and contractors. You will also support junior team members and contribute to the production of accurate, high-standard work.
Key duties
- Work alongside the Office Manager and the wider design team; the office currently consists of a small group of five people.
- Develop design ideas using sketches, physical models, digital models, diagrams, massing studies, and similar visual tools.
- Prepare architectural documentation and drawings for multiple project stages, including site plans, floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction details.
- Participate in coordination meetings with internal colleagues and external consultants.
- Create concept designs that align with client briefs and project needs.
- Produce detailed technical drawings and check them for quality and accuracy.
- Prepare and submit Building Consent and Resource Consent applications.
- Handle communication with council and answer requests for further information.
Experience and skills
The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of architectural design experience, along with a Diploma in Architectural Technology or a Bachelor of Architectural Studies. Strong capability in Archicad is required, together with good project management ability, clear written and verbal communication, strong organisation, effective time management, attention to detail, and practical problem-solving skills.
You should also be comfortable using Microsoft Office and have a basic working knowledge of time-tracking tools such as Harvest and Asana.
