Position Overview
The Instructional Designer will be instrumental in creating engaging and scalable educational content aimed at supporting the development and job performance of ERock’s technical and field teams. Reporting to the Director of Training, this role operates from the Houston office with a hybrid work arrangement.
Key Duties
- Developing diverse learning materials including e-learning courses, classroom training, simulations, videos, and job aids for technician and field personnel.
- Applying adult learning theories, Bloom's Taxonomy, and established instructional methods to design effective educational experiences.
- Creating interactive digital content using authoring software like Articulate 360 and Rise.
- Collaborating with leadership to define training curricula aligned with role-specific competencies and qualifications.
- Designing modular training content to support onboarding, career progression, and continuous skill enhancement.
- Conducting needs assessments and interviews with subject matter experts across various departments.
- Working with Technical Writers to ensure learning materials accurately reflect procedures and standards.
- Managing digital content within the Learning Management System, including versioning, tagging, and progress reporting.
- Evaluating training effectiveness using models such as Kirkpatrick and identifying improvements.
- Producing visual elements like graphics, diagrams, infographics, and videos to boost learner engagement.
- Maintaining templates, standards, and design guidelines for consistent quality in learning materials.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in instructional design, technical training, or learning development.
- Proficient in using authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Rise, Captivate, or Camtasia.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles, ADDIE or SAM instructional design models, and engagement techniques for technical content.
- Experience in converting complex technical or procedural data into accessible, learner-friendly formats.
- Excellent writing, visual design, organizational, and project management capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts.
- Detail-oriented with dedication to clarity and consistency across instructional content.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in a standard office setting using typical office tools including computers.
- Stamina to maintain focus and manage interruptions.
- Capable of reading printed and digital materials and communicating verbally and by phone.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to job sites and remote locations to engage with experts and observe field operations.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience designing training content for industrial, utility, or energy sectors.
- Familiarity with technician training, safety protocols, and field operations.
- Knowledge of Learning Management System administration and learning analytics.
- Background in designing leadership and soft skills training programs.
- Skills in multimedia content creation such as video editing, voiceovers, and graphic design.
