Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Infrastructure and Systems Engineer to join our Staff Augmentation team in Australia on a 6-month contract. In this vital role, you will act as the primary escalation point for Level 2 and Level 3 support across the organization's Microsoft and infrastructure environments. Your focus will be on maintaining secure, reliable, and highly available systems while supporting both cloud and on-premises infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with the sole on-site ICT staff member, contribute to cybersecurity efforts, and lead various operational and improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver Level 2/3 technical support and handle escalations involving Microsoft 365, Azure, and on-premises infrastructure components.
• Administer Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and Entra ID.
• Manage Azure cloud resources, including virtual machines, networking, storage, and identity services.
• Maintain Windows Server systems, Active Directory, and Group Policy configurations.
• Operate and support VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualisation technologies.
• Configure and troubleshoot networking elements including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Monitor infrastructure health, identify risks proactively, and resolve issues affecting performance and availability.
• Support cybersecurity operations by managing security incidents, enforcing best practices, and assisting in threat mitigation.
• Conduct system patching, upgrades, and vulnerability remediation for both server and cloud environments.
• Oversee backup and disaster recovery processes, ensuring rigorous testing and readiness.
• Develop PowerShell scripts to automate and streamline administrative tasks.
• Create and update technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers to address infrastructure challenges.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to the on-site ICT resource as needed.
• Participate in after-hours support during critical incidents and scheduled maintenance activities.
• Engage in infrastructure improvement projects and contribute to technology advancement initiatives.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Proven experience in a Level 2/3 Infrastructure or Systems Engineering capacity.
• Strong expertise administering Microsoft 365 platforms including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Entra ID.
• Hands-on experience managing Microsoft Azure environments and cloud services.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and Group Policy management.
• Familiarity with virtualization solutions such as VMware and Hyper-V.
• Solid networking background covering switching, routing, firewalls, and VPN technology.
• Experience supporting hybrid cloud setups integrating on-premises infrastructure with Azure.
• Understanding of cybersecurity concepts, incident response procedures, and implementation of security best practices.
• Competence in managing backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
• Strong PowerShell scripting skills for automation of operational tasks.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities in complex environments.
• Effective communication skills adaptable for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and lead technically when necessary.
• Proactive attitude focusing on continuous improvement, thorough documentation, and operational excellence.

Desirable Certifications and Experience

• Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Administrator, or Azure Solutions Architect.
• Experience with Microsoft security technologies including Defender and Sentinel.
• Prior experience working in Managed Service Provider (MSP) or multi-client environments.
• ITIL Foundation certification or hands-on experience with ITIL service management frameworks.
