Role overview
Modern Construction Services is expanding and building a bench of experienced professionals for future openings. This role is for a seasoned commercial general superintendent who can lead field operations, keep complex jobs moving, and uphold strong standards for safety, quality, and schedule control. The position is based in Charlotte, NC with significant travel and extended stays at project sites.
Compensation and travel support
Annualized compensation is $135,000, with total compensation value estimated at $229,000.
- Per diem and lodging allowance: $275 per day for 7 days a week across 49 weeks each year, with 3 weeks of PTO; estimated annual value is $94,325
- The company covers flights home every 3 weeks
- Company vehicle provided
Work location and schedule
This is a full-time traveling position. The superintendent is expected to remain on-site for the full duration of assigned projects. Job sites may run on a 5-day or 7-day schedule depending on project needs, and availability is expected Monday through the active workweek. Lodging and per diem are included, and travel home is paid every three weeks.

What you will do
- Oversee all day-to-day construction activity on site and ensure work aligns with contract drawings, specifications, and project documents
- Coordinate subcontractors and trade partners, including site orientation, scheduling, and performance follow-up
- Maintain a safe and compliant work environment by leading subcontractor safety orientations and enforcing site safety procedures
- Check workmanship and confirm installations meet required quality standards before they are accepted
- Create and update the three-week look-ahead plan
- Manage the overall project timeline so the job finishes on schedule
- Coordinate deliveries, inspections, and key milestones to keep work progressing
- Lead punch list completion and manage trade partners through final inspections and project turnover
- Make sure all closeout records, certifications, and handover documents are complete and well organized
- Report to the President of Construction and stay in regular contact with the assigned Project Manager
- Record daily progress, site conditions, RFIs, and any schedule or cost impacts
- Represent the company professionally in interactions with clients, architects, and inspectors
Requirements
- At least 10 years of experience as a superintendent or general superintendent in commercial construction
- At least 5 years of experience managing superintendents, working with project managers, and developing field teams
- Proven ability to independently run a commercial construction project from start to finish
- Strong understanding of construction safety requirements and subcontractor coordination
- Hands-on experience with Procore and Microsoft Project
- Current OSHA 30, First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications
- Excellent communication and organizational ability
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively and stay at project sites for extended periods
Preferred background
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related discipline, though equivalent field experience is equally acceptable
- Exposure to Bolt and/or Avetta software
- Experience on commercial projects across different markets and geographies
Physical demands
The role involves working in both construction-site and office environments using standard office equipment. It also requires walking the job site, climbing, and carrying up to 25 lbs of materials or equipment.
