Job description

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our energetic construction team in Columbia, MD. This role demands proficiency in project estimation, bidding, and blueprint interpretation across various construction projects. Candidates should have no less than 3 years of practical experience in estimation and a history of producing precise and competitive project bids.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and all-encompassing project cost estimates and bids using blueprints, technical specifications, and related documentation.
  • Analyze project plans to estimate time, cost, materials, and labor requirements accurately.
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, internal departments, and foremen to formulate estimates and resolve related challenges.
  • Conduct specialized studies to develop standard cost metrics or identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Evaluate whether it is more economical to manufacture or buy components based on material and labor analyses.
  • Generate periodic cost reports and documentation throughout project timelines.
  • Monitor cost efficiency of products and projects and compare actual costs to bid estimates during project progression.
  • Maintain an updated and detailed pricing database supporting accurate estimating.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in construction estimation.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project estimation, bidding processes, and blueprint reading.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction materials, procedures, and equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication along with negotiation capabilities.
  • Proficiency using estimation software tools.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and adhere to tight schedules.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to handle complex assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to research project-related issues and products thoroughly.
