Job description

About the Role

We are seeking an Estimator to become a key member of our Construction Estimating team at our Solihull location in the West Midlands. In this role, you will support the tendering process by developing cost estimates that promote competitive yet profitable bids. Collaboration across multiple teams is essential to accurately estimate project expenses, recognize opportunities, and manage associated risks effectively. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys analytical problem solving, fostering relationships, and contributing to the successful delivery of major construction undertakings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculate project costs and required resources to prepare tender submissions aimed at reducing risk and enhancing profit margins.
  • Develop and maintain strong business relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers throughout the tendering stages.
  • Engage in negotiation processes with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain best pricing and advantageous contractual terms.
  • Support initiatives on value engineering while working closely with design, planning, and commercial departments.
  • Participate in project handovers to ensure seamless transitions to execution teams.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience operating within a main contracting company, preferably Tier 2 or higher.
  • Proficiency with Excel and construction estimating software tools.
  • Meticulous and conscientious work ethic with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build effective collaborative relationships.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment managing several priorities simultaneously.
