Job description

About the Role and Organization

This position is part of a UNDP initiative linked to the Uzbekistan Sustainable Rural Development Project, financed by the Islamic Development Bank. The project's focus is empowering local communities and authorities by enhancing their capacity to develop and implement green, energy-efficient, and digital local development plans. The objective is to promote environmentally sustainable practices, support economic opportunities, and integrate climate resilience across community and regional levels using a gender-sensitive, inclusive, and comprehensive approach.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate the project vehicle safely and securely to transport authorized staff, including international experts.
  • Deliver and collect official correspondence, mail, and documents within Samarkand and other pilot regions as needed.
  • Assist with logistics including deliveries to regional ministry departments, customs clearance, and visits to airports and warehouses.
  • Greet official personnel at airports and facilitate immigration and customs procedures.
  • Conduct daily vehicle maintenance checks covering oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and electrolyte levels.
  • Maintain detailed logs of trips, mileage, fuel usage, oil changes, and other maintenance activities, reporting monthly to the Project Manager.
  • Ensure cost-effectiveness through proper vehicle care and prompt minor repairs that do not require specialized tools, including maintaining vehicle cleanliness.
  • Submit monthly reports on the vehicle's technical condition and planned expenses for timely maintenance.
  • Respond appropriately in cases of accidents or traffic violations, adhering to UNDP and local regulations and taking necessary immediate actions.
  • Perform additional administrative and logistical duties, such as handling pouches, procurement support, and assisting in workshops.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Secondary school diploma.
  • Valid driving license (category B).
  • Minimum of 2 years driving experience with a safe driving record.
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and familiarity with web-based management and scheduling systems.
  • Good understanding of driving regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs.

Preferred Competencies and Attributes

  • Previous experience working for international organizations or companies is an advantage.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Experience in vehicle maintenance.
  • Fluency in Uzbek and Russian; English language skills are beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel within Uzbekistan's project regions as required.

Institutional Context

The Driver reports directly to the Project Manager and is expected to provide prompt and secure transport services in compliance with UNDP corporate policies.
