Director Operations, State Communications Development

Role overview

The Director Operations, State Communications Development leads and provides expert guidance for the ongoing operation, enhancement and governance of Queensland Ambulance Service Operations Centres (OpCens). The role is responsible for strengthening communications capability and ensuring these mission-critical centres continue to deliver dependable, high-quality dispatch and call-taking services that align with business performance targets and community expectations.

Key selection attributes

• Proven success in directing all aspects of communications operations and capability growth within a modern Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Operations Centre, especially in an ambulance service setting where service continuity and performance are critical.
• Strong background in shaping, planning, designing, testing and implementing complex communications solutions for Operations Centres, with the ability to support organisational goals and key performance indicators.
• Ability to assess complex problems and turn them into well-informed, timely advice, strategic options and practical solutions, including the capacity to introduce new ways of working when needed.
• Extensive experience across risk management, evaluation, project delivery, budgeting, logistics and procurement in an emergency services environment, together with the capability to advise on policy and service planning.
• Highly developed communication, negotiation, consultation and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to represent the organisation at state and national events, committee forums and community or industry meetings.
• Clear commitment to equitable, ethical and safe workplace practices, including employment equity, cultural diversity and occupational health and safety, plus demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a multidisciplinary workforce to deliver results.
