Role Overview

We are looking for a Development Analyst/Associate to support consulting services for early-stage energy projects. This includes tasks like permitting, opportunity origination, and reviewing project constraints for renewable energy initiatives. The position bridges market research, site evaluation, and pipeline development to identify promising projects early on, mitigate risks, and provide critical inputs for go/no-go decisions prior to advanced development phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage with state and local planning and zoning authorities to obtain and analyze legal ordinances and other relevant documents.
• Conduct early-stage prospecting and evaluate potential constraints or fatal flaws for renewable energy projects.
• Investigate federal, state, and local permitting and regulatory requirements applicable to wind, solar, and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
• Draft, edit, and review technical reports and third-party consultant deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
• Examine third-party studies, land entitlements, agreements, and documents critically for thoroughness.
• Assist with due diligence on both greenfield projects and mergers & acquisitions/acquisition opportunities when requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in archaeology, biology, engineering, environmental science, or related discipline.
• Between 3 and 5 years of experience in energy markets, renewable energy development, consulting, or similar fields; environmental consulting experience is advantageous.
• Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities.
• Proficient knowledge of land use, zoning, and entitlement procedures at state and local levels.
• Familiarity with permitting frameworks and regulations concerning wind, solar, and BESS projects.
• Excellent technical writing and editing skills, including experience reviewing consultant deliverables.
• Ability to interpret legal and regulatory documents such as ordinances, entitlements, and land agreements, identifying risks or inconsistencies.
• Comfortable independently conducting research across multiple jurisdictions and regulatory bodies.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills capable of managing multiple concurrent priorities in a dynamic setting.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel; experience with GIS software is a plus.
• Strong communication abilities for conveying complex information clearly.

Preferred Skills

• Experience conducting constraints or fatal flaw analyses for renewable site selection.
• Prior exposure to due diligence processes for greenfield development or acquisitions.
• Familiarity with GIS and mapping tools to support early site assessment.
• Experience liaising with planning, zoning, and government stakeholders.
• Background in environmental consulting, real estate, or energy/land use law is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is commensurate with skills, experience, and internal pay equity. This is a full-time, salaried W2 position offering base pay plus bonus. Benefits include:
