Datacenter Manager

About the Role

OVHcloud is expanding in Germany with a brand-new colocation datacenter in Berlin, and we're seeking a dedicated Datacenter Manager to oversee the operational launch and ongoing IT performance at the site. This unique opportunity involves leading the Berlin 3AZ datacenter from inception and owning all day-to-day activities to ensure peak efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full charge of floor operations, including planning, scheduling, and monitoring all connections, upgrades, customizations, and rack-related tasks aligned with organizational strategies.
• Recruit, onboard, integrate, and mentor an IT team of technicians tailored to meet operational goals and performance standards.
• Be an accessible and supportive leader fostering strong social cohesion among teams and serving as a dependable contact point.
• Promote a culture of growth for both site infrastructure and personnel by tracking performance, conducting evaluations, managing skill development, and charting advancement routes.
• Instill and maintain a safety-first mindset through team training, monitoring, and compliance with international standards and regulatory obligations.
• Operate a lean, data-driven management structure utilizing lean methodologies, OKR/KPI dashboards, structured reports, and oversee daily financial operations including opex and capex budgeting.
• Coordinate and communicate effectively internally and externally, collaborating with delivery unit leadership and managing policy implementation and stakeholder relationships.
• Manage relationships with external partners such as colocation vendors, authorities, and clients to ensure smooth operations and strong partnerships.
• Guarantee site adherence to safety, security, and compliance standards, ensuring a safe workplace for all personnel.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge in IT hardware and software including servers, networking equipment, storage, and relevant maintenance tools.
• Strong planning and organizational abilities with expertise in juggling multiple priorities and utilizing IT management tools effectively.
• Proven leadership experience with excellent interpersonal skills and a balanced focus on trust, presence, and technical understanding.
• Comfortable working with data analytics, generating reports, and utilizing OKR/KPI dashboards to inform decisions.
• Awareness of compliance and safety standards applicable to datacenter operations, including international regulations.
• A proactive approach towards continuous process and team improvement.
• Fluent English communication skills to collaborate with teams across Europe.
• Minimum of two years managing teams within industrial or IT operations, supported by a strong educational foundation (5+ years higher education), with conflict and performance management capabilities.
• Knowledge of datacenter infrastructure including power systems (MV transformers, generators, UPS, batteries) and cooling solutions, along with standards such as ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 50001, and PCI-DSS.
• Experience in financial oversight including operating expenses, capital expenditures, P&L reporting, and business case development.
• Previous experience in colocation or datacenter environments is advantageous.

Impact Timeline

• Within six months, establish full command of the IT Run and upgrade team operations and develop strong collaborative relationships across the European DC Operations network.
• Within one year, attain deep understanding of the datacenter IT systems and infrastructure to maintain excellent service levels (SLA, MTTR) meeting customer and operational expectations.
