Overview
An organization is looking for a seasoned Database Administrator with at least five years of practical experience in managing, safeguarding, and optimizing databases critical to enterprise operations. The role demands ensuring high availability, performance efficiency, data integrity, and security across multiple production environments while supporting various business applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Setup, configure, upgrade, and maintain database servers to ensure smooth operations.
- Continuously monitor database performance and apply tuning techniques to enhance response times.
- Develop and enforce robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to prevent data loss.
- Maintain the database's availability, reliability, and security aligned with organizational standards.
- Carry out periodic database maintenance tasks, including patch management and system upgrades.
- Utilize monitoring and performance analysis tools to track database health.
- Administer database security by managing user roles, permissions, and policies.
- Identify and resolve database-related incidents promptly within SLA guidelines.
- Optimize SQL queries, indexing, and execution plans to improve efficiency.
- Deploy and sustain database replication and high-availability setups.
- Manage database migration projects, upgrades, and data transfers effectively.
- Document configurations, procedures, and operational workflows thoroughly.
- Collaborate with development teams for application deployment and performance tuning.
- Ensure compliance with security governance and organizational policies.
- Participate in capacity planning to support future infrastructure growth.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related disciplines.
- A minimum of five years’ experience working as a Database Administrator in enterprise-level environments.
- In-depth understanding of relational database systems and architectures.
- Proven experience handling production databases in medium to large-scale settings.
- Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Effective communication abilities and strong documentation skills.
Technical Competencies
- Hands-on experience with one or more database platforms: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB.
- Expertise in database installation, configuration, performance tuning, backup, replication, high availability, disaster recovery, migration, capacity planning, and index optimization.
- Knowledge of Windows Server and Linux operating systems (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS).
- Familiarity with monitoring and automation tools such as SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle Enterprise Manager, pgAdmin, MySQL Workbench, PowerShell and Bash scripting, and general database monitoring utilities.
- Preferably experienced with cloud database services like Microsoft Azure SQL, Amazon RDS, and Google Cloud SQL.
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Certified Associate (OCA)
- AWS Certified Database – Specialty
- PostgreSQL Professional Certification
