Data Classification Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Classification Engineer based in Abu Dhabi to manage and secure organizational data effectively. The primary focus of this role is to classify data correctly by categorizing it into levels like Public, Confidential, or Restricted, ensuring data privacy and compliance before sharing with clients. You will oversee data classification tools, generate client audit reports, and act as the liaison for demonstrating data protection measures to customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform identification and labeling of sensitive information across databases applying suitable security tags.
• Deploy and maintain data governance and classification software such as Microsoft Purview and IDMC to automate scanning and tagging procedures.
• Develop detailed, user-friendly reports for client evaluations illustrating the classification status and safeguards of their data.
• Coordinate audits and serve as the primary technical contact during client inspections of security controls and documentation.
• Collaborate with IT and database teams to resolve any vulnerabilities or errors discovered in the labeling and protection framework.

Qualifications and Experience

• Extensive experience (2-3 years) with data governance tools including but not limited to Microsoft Purview, IDMC Data Governance, Informatica EDC, Informatica Axon, IBM Watson Knowledge Catalog, or BigID.
• Strong foundational knowledge of SQL for inspecting and querying data tables and columns.
• Familiarity with security audits and compliance standards such as UAE PDPL, ISO 27001, GDPR, or SOC 2.
• Excellent communication abilities to articulate security policies and technical details clearly to clients and internal teams.
• High attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills for managing sensitive documents.

Educational Background

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Proven professional background with over 6 years’ experience in data security, governance, or IT audit domains.

Additional Information

This role is based onsite in Abu Dhabi and offers a salary between AED 15,000 to 16,000. Candidates must be prepared to handle client-facing audits and ensure that all data management procedures meet rigorous security requirements.
