About the Organization
Kerry County Council governs local administration in County Kerry, Ireland, with its headquarters at Áras an Chontae, Rathass, Tralee. The county is divided into five Municipal Districts: Tralee, Killarney, Listowel, Kenmare, and Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne. The council comprises 33 elected members and about 1500 employees. It administers a population of approximately 156,500 residents spanning 4,700 square kilometers and three peninsulas, delivering a comprehensive range of local government services including housing, climate action, planning, environmental management, roads, leisure, culture, economic development, and community programs. The council collaborates with communities, public and private sector entities, providing shared services including a national procurement center for plant hire and building works.
Job Description
The position of County Librarian involves overseeing the strategic leadership and administration of the county's library service. The librarian is tasked with defining strategic priorities, ensuring excellent service delivery, managing resources effectively, and enhancing the library's role as a vital community center for information access, education, culture, and engagement.
Library Service Initiatives
The service actively supports several national and local campaigns such as the Right to Read program, Healthy Ireland at Your Library, Age Friendly Libraries, Ireland Reads, the Bealtaine Festival, Skills for Life, and climate action initiatives.
