Role Overview
We are seeking a technically skilled and proactive Cool Chain Technical Operator to maintain the smooth, safe, and high-standard operation of our postharvest facilities at the Whakatu site. This hands-on position involves close collaboration with the Refrigeration Engineer to oversee refrigeration, controlled atmosphere storage, electrical infrastructure, building services, and overall cool chain performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and optimize fruit temperatures along with controlled atmosphere storage conditions.
- Analyze system performance trends through SCADA and similar monitoring tools.
- Support operations and upkeep of refrigeration and electrical systems across the facility.
- Manage contractors to ensure safe, high-quality completion of maintenance and improvement work.
- Assist in planning and executing preventative maintenance activities.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety standards and support site security and building services.
- Identify and implement enhancements for greater efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with operations teams, suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Contribute to engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the on-call roster to maintain critical system availability.
Candidate Profile
- Experience with commercial refrigeration or controlled atmosphere systems.
- Sound knowledge of engineering and electrical principles.
- Proven ability to coordinate contractor activities and maintenance efforts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a proactive mindset.
- Effective communication skills and ability to foster productive working relationships.
- Dedication to health, safety, and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Refrigeration Engineering, Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Experience in horticulture, food processing, cold storage, or supply chain sectors.
- Project management skills or relevant certifications.
- Background in process improvement and operational efficiency projects.
