Communications Manager

Position Overview

Partners In Health (PIH) is seeking a dynamic, creative Communications Manager passionate about social justice to lead and develop its communications program in Sierra Leone. Based preferably in Kono or Freetown with up to 50% travel required to Kono, this role contributes to expanding visibility and support for PIH's mission through storytelling, media engagement, fundraising communications, internal communication, and capacity-building.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategically lead all external communications including annual content planning supporting local and global teams.
• Oversee creation and quality control of multimedia stories highlighting PIH-SL’s programs, staff, patients, and impact.
• Grow and manage social media presence by setting targets, analyzing performance, and leading campaigns.
• Drive content development for the PIH-SL website to enhance advocacy and donor engagement.
• Manage media relations, facilitate interviews and visits, and provide media training for spokespeople.
• Ensure all communications align with ethical, organizational, and safeguarding standards.
• Lead fundraising communications, including developing collateral such as one-pagers and the Annual Report.
• Collaborate with global fundraising and marketing teams to produce donor-centered communications, especially around the Maternal Center of Excellence.
• Support policy, partnership, and advocacy efforts through strategic communication and government engagement.
• Work closely with program managers to support grant reporting communications ensuring compelling and compliant content.
• Maintain and enhance internal communications, including newsletter production and communication practices across the organization.
• Develop and manage a communications archive and file management system accessible locally and globally.
• Recruit, onboard, and mentor communications team members, managing the program budget effectively.
• Assess training needs within communications and design and implement relevant capacity-building programs.
• Elevate the strategic importance and visibility of communications within the organization.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience in digital content creation, branding, marketing communications, journalism, PR, or management.
• Strong dedication to PIH’s mission and interest in global health equity and social justice.
• Proven experience collaborating across departments and cultures to produce high-quality content.
• Skilled at building relationships with diverse stakeholders internally and externally.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly within Sierra Leone to report on PIH’s activities.
• Excellent multitasking skills with a detail-oriented mindset for content planning and prioritization.
• Independent worker capable of managing initiatives with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Experienced in team leadership and managing deadlines.
• Familiarity with Office365, Content Management Systems, social media platforms, InDesign, Canva, Slack, Squarespace, or eagerness to learn new tools quickly.
• Outstanding English language and writing/editing skills.
• Adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and a curious approach to learning.
