About Invest New Zealand
Invest New Zealand is a newly formed Autonomous Crown Entity dedicated to enhancing the nation's economic future by attracting international investment that boosts productivity and creates lasting benefits. The organization collaborates with government, industry, and global investors to drive economic prosperity.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee enterprise-wide operations ensuring effective systems, governance, and disciplines enable Invest New Zealand to function as a trusted public entity. The COO will lead the operations team and the Growth Category of the Active Investor Plus program, aiming to build a leading investment promotion agency that balances operational excellence with exceptional investor experiences. This role is based in either Auckland or Wellington.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive organisational performance and operational excellence to ensure seamless service delivery to investors and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to meet strategic and investment objectives.
- Manage governance, financial oversight, and risk management across the entity.
- Uphold legal, regulatory, and programmatic integrity while fostering a culture of high performance.
Candidate Profile
- Proven senior leadership experience managing operations, governance, compliance, or organisational performance.
- Track record of working effectively with Boards, Ministers, or senior executive stakeholders.
- Skilled at cultivating trusted partnerships across government, regulatory bodies, and private sector entities.
- Collaborative leader focused on developing people and high performing teams.
- Strong commercial insight with understanding of investment, finance, or capital markets.
- Comprehensive knowledge of governance frameworks, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
- Experienced in financial stewardship and maintaining accountability.
- Preferably holds a legal qualification and is willing to travel between Auckland and Wellington when required.
