Role Overview

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will oversee enterprise-wide operations ensuring effective systems, governance, and disciplines enable Invest New Zealand to function as a trusted public entity. The COO will lead the operations team and the Growth Category of the Active Investor Plus program, aiming to build a leading investment promotion agency that balances operational excellence with exceptional investor experiences. This role is based in either Auckland or Wellington.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive organisational performance and operational excellence to ensure seamless service delivery to investors and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team to meet strategic and investment objectives.
• Manage governance, financial oversight, and risk management across the entity.
• Uphold legal, regulatory, and programmatic integrity while fostering a culture of high performance.

Candidate Profile

• Proven senior leadership experience managing operations, governance, compliance, or organisational performance.
• Track record of working effectively with Boards, Ministers, or senior executive stakeholders.
• Skilled at cultivating trusted partnerships across government, regulatory bodies, and private sector entities.
• Collaborative leader focused on developing people and high performing teams.
• Strong commercial insight with understanding of investment, finance, or capital markets.
• Comprehensive knowledge of governance frameworks, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
• Experienced in financial stewardship and maintaining accountability.
• Preferably holds a legal qualification and is willing to travel between Auckland and Wellington when required.
