Job description
Position Overview
Join the Facilities team at MidKent College as a full-time Caretaker based at the Maidstone campus. This permanent role involves delivering a welcoming front-of-house experience while ensuring a clean, safe, and orderly environment across college sites. The position includes varied facilities duties and support for campus events.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Work scheduled shifts aligning with college hours, assisting in event support, door supervision, crowd management, and site security including locking/unlocking buildings.
- Maintain a hospitable and secure reception service, verifying identification and managing access control for students, staff, and visitors.
- Provide room setup services for teaching, exams, and events ensuring facilities are safe, tidy, and appropriately arranged.
- Conduct daily cleaning operations in assigned campus areas such as road sweeping, litter clearance, bin emptying, and waste sorting to promote recycling and proper disposal.
- Handle internal and external mail, parcels, and deliveries, including coverage of goods-in zones and driving college vehicles between locations as required.
- Be vigilant throughout the campus, assist security personnel, support emergency procedures including fire alarms and evacuations, and escort college users as needed.
- Support incident management working with managers and facilities leadership, escalating issues and coordinating with emergency services when necessary.
- Help manage campus traffic and parking during peak times and events, and maintain safe access during adverse weather through appropriate treatments like gritting.
- Perform basic repairs, help contractors, and ensure maintenance activities comply with safety standards and procedures.
- Inventory and inspect classrooms furnishings and equipment, report faults, conduct routine compliance checks, and liaise with Estates for building or equipment issues.
- Complete training to serve as Fire Marshal and potentially as a First Aider.
