About Amazon AIR and Position Overview
Amazon AIR is creating one of the most ambitious dedicated aviation networks worldwide, aiming to revolutionize delivery speed and product selection for millions of customers. To support this growth, we seek a Flight Capacity Planner to join our Flight Scheduling team, leading the strategy and optimization of flight capacity over short, medium, and long-term horizons. This role encompasses flight schedule design, capacity allocation, and network modeling to drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of flight schedules across multiple planning horizons, serving as the key liaison for related business units like ground transport, fulfillment centers, and last-mile operations.
- Provide data-backed recommendations to senior leadership regarding network design, routes, and capacity investments.
- Continuously improve capacity plans and network strategies driving enhancements in customer experience, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
- Analyze and balance trade-offs between customer requirements and operational costs, collaborating with teams such as Finance, Operations, Process Engineering, and Procurement to achieve aligned decisions.
- Serve as a subject matter expert partnering with Research Science and Technology teams to design next-generation planning and forecasting tools.
- Evaluate flight utilization, block hour efficiency, and network performance to identify areas for optimization.
- Oversee flight capacity allocation to ensure alignment with demand forecasts and operational constraints.
- Effectively manage multiple simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment, taking full ownership and accountability for deliverables.
- Willingness to undertake domestic travel up to 10% of the time.
Typical Workday
You will generate and refine flight operation plans, pinpoint improvement opportunities, and communicate plans across internal teams. Your tasks will include data analysis, network modeling, and collaboration with carriers, operations, and ground transport teams to ensure seamless integration of flight schedules within the wider network.
About the Team
The Flight Scheduling team, part of the Planning & Performance organization within AIR Supply Chain & Analytics, develops short-to-long term operational plans that define Amazon AIR’s flight schedules. This critical function sets the strategic direction to optimize delivery speed, cost, and network quality.
Candidate Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Minimum 2 years of supply chain experience.
- At least 2 years working cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Proven experience leading process improvements based on data and metrics.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel functionalities such as Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP, and proficient in SQL.
- Experience gathering program requirements and using metrics to guide enhancements.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 or more years managing end-to-end project delivery and presenting outcomes to senior leadership.
- Proven track record implementing process improvements.
- Strong stakeholder management skills interacting with various organizational levels.
- Experience in process design, project management, and schedule creation.
