Job Overview
The Chief Building Official leads Building and Permit administration in the City of Conroe, managing the issuance of building and trade permits as well as reviewing construction plans to ensure adherence to applicable codes and ordinances. Responsibilities cover a wide range of construction projects encompassing residential, commercial, renovations, and new developments.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus ten years of relevant experience, or a comparable mix of education and experience.
- Experience in the construction industry, preferably municipal inspection experience, including familiarity with the International Building Code, Electrical, Plumbing Codes, and related standards.
- ICC Certification as a Certified Building Official is mandatory or must be obtained within the first year of employment.
- State Plumbing Inspectors' License required or to be acquired within one year.
- Code Enforcement Officer Registration is preferred or must be secured within one year from the start date.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient understanding of International Building Code, local city codes, and enforcement regulations.
- Experienced at interpreting and applying building and housing codes during consultations with contractors.
- Skilled in coordinating various trades including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural tasks.
- Capable of assessing construction project valuations accurately.
- Committed to delivering superior customer service to the construction community and handling related correspondence professionally.
- Competent in managing permit issuance processes according to established protocols.
- Strong leadership skills to supervise staff effectively.
Physical Requirements
The role involves light physical tasks requiring occasional exertion up to 20 pounds and frequent handling of items up to 10 pounds. Essential physical capabilities include balance, climbing, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, reaching, speaking, sight, and walking alongside mental acuity.
