Role Overview

Applied Scientists at Wolt leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimize critical processes across the company’s online delivery platform and business operations that span 30 countries.

Embedded within product development teams, Applied Scientists collaborate closely with Product Leads, Software Engineers, Designers, and Product Data Analysts to concentrate on particular focus areas. This role entails owning use cases from identifying impactful opportunities to building, prototyping, deploying, and maintaining solutions that continuously improve in production environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Join the cross-functional Supply & Demand team to develop algorithms and tools balancing courier availability with customer demand.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and analysts to create data-driven products, including demand and supply forecasting, causal inference, budget allocation, and optimization.
• Apply advanced machine learning, forecasting, optimization, and statistical modeling techniques to overcome large-scale operational challenges.
• Drive improvements in delivery quality, courier experience, and marketplace efficiency by maintaining optimal balance of couriers and customer orders.
• Develop insights and decision-support tools empowering Operations teams to manage delivery zones effectively and optimize marketplace performance.

Candidate Profile

• Strong passion for applying data science, machine learning, and AI to solve real-world business problems with measurable impact.
• Expertise in designing and deploying production-grade machine learning models capable of large-scale operation, with experience managing the full lifecycle from conceptualization to maintenance.
• Solid foundation in machine learning principles and statistical methods, including time-series data handling and forecasting at scale; familiarity with Bayesian techniques and optimization is highly valued.
• Proficiency in producing robust, maintainable Python code adhering to engineering best practices; comfortable working with SQL; willing to learn or apply ML operations tools for productionalizing models.
• Ability to clearly convey complex technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders, bridging the gap between scientific approaches and business objectives.
• Excellent analytical skills in decomposing complex business challenges into clear machine learning problems and formulating effective data-driven solutions aligned with business outcomes.
• Sound understanding of experimental design and methodological analysis to support rigorous experimentation and assess project impact.
• Preferred experience in procurement and supply chain optimization, particularly involving fresh products and retail sectors.
