Overview
Centaur AI, based in Hawke’s Bay, is on a mission to guide businesses across New Zealand from AI experimentation toward real-world AI integration. We focus on uncovering valuable AI opportunities, redesigning workflows, and embedding AI into daily operations through AI Discovery, AI Sprint, and AI Embed engagements.
Role Summary
We seek a skilled Applied AI Solutions Engineer to collaborate closely with our AI transformation lead, crafting effective and robust AI solutions. You will be involved in designing AI-powered business workflows, rapid prototyping with leading AI platforms such as Claude and ChatGPT, and integrating generative AI with automation and deterministic processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Create AI-augmented business workflows tailored to client needs.
- Rapidly prototype using Claude, ChatGPT, and other top AI tools.
- Blend generative AI with automation and deterministic processes.
- Connect AI functionalities to documents, spreadsheets, APIs, and other business systems.
- Utilize automation platforms like n8n and Zapier for integration.
- Develop lightweight components in Python or JavaScript when necessary.
- Design structured outputs, tool utilization, and agentic workflows to enhance functionality.
- Test solutions thoroughly, prepare documentation, and ensure smooth transfer to client teams.
- Offer technical insights during Discovery and design sessions with clients.

Whether solutions arise fully within AI platforms or combine automation and lightweight coding, judgment in selecting the approach is vital. Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate possesses the ability to quickly understand complex business challenges, evaluate technical options, and recommend effective solutions. Core qualifications include:
- Proven hands-on experience with generative AI implementations.
- Strong familiarity with Claude, ChatGPT, and major large language model APIs.
- Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript programming.
- Expertise in workflow automation and API integration.
- Knowledge of structured output design, tool/function calls, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and agentic workflows.
- Experience handling business data, documents, and legacy systems.
- Understanding of AI system reliability, privacy, and security principles.
- Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with non-technical stakeholders.
