Job description
About BJAK
BJAK began in 2019 with a mission to provide smarter ways for individuals to plan, save, and grow their finances. As the first mobile-first insurance platform in Southeast Asia, BJAK has made insurance accessible online to millions. The company is now broadening its offerings to include spending, saving, investing, exchanging, and travel services, aiming to help users maximize their money daily. BJAK's diverse team of over 20 nationalities works worldwide, united by passion and a commitment to developing innovative financial products accessible to all.
Role Overview
BJAK is developing a Neobank Superapp tailored for Southeast Asia, and the Technical Product Manager will take full ownership of specific product verticals such as payments, expense management, remittance, insurance, or wealth and trading. This role encompasses the entire lifecycle from strategy and roadmap creation to overseeing technical design and system delivery. The platform handles real money flows, with compliance, licensing, and integration with third-party payment rails as central product considerations. Being AI-native, the role requires balancing AI capabilities with deterministic controls to ensure reliability, auditability, and trustworthiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee an entire product vertical, managing outcomes, metrics, prioritization based on value, risk, dependencies, and strategic objectives, alongside well-defined acceptance criteria for development and testing.
- Collaborate with engineers to shape system architecture focusing on money movement accuracy (including idempotency, ledgering, and reconciliation), integrating third-party payment rails and handling their downtime, security measures, performance, scalability, and recovery strategies.
- Evaluate and justify complex trade-offs among accuracy, speed, cost, reliability, and user experience to stakeholders including engineering, compliance, and operations leadership.
- Incorporate regulated requirements as integral inputs, addressing licensing, customer due diligence (CDD)/Know Your Customer (KYC), sanctions and politically exposed persons (PEP) screening, transaction monitoring, as well as data privacy and residency considerations; distinguish launch-critical gates from future readiness needs.
- Integrate AI features judiciously, defining boundaries for autonomous decisions, human oversight, evaluation methods, and fallback procedures to maintain traceability to source data.
- Navigate external dependencies by developing feature-complete systems under feature flags and coordinating launches aligned with partner and regulatory approvals.
- Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Design, Compliance, Operations, Treasury, and Finance/Reconciliation teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven product leadership with substantial experience managing complex technical products end-to-end, demonstrating sound judgment and decisiveness amidst ambiguity, and balancing vision with technical, regulatory, and operational realities.
- Strong technical foundation in system design including defining system boundaries, data storage, queues/workflows, APIs, failure mechanisms, and concurrency consistency; able to review and challenge design documents and draft architectures and process flows effectively.
- Experience in regulated or high-impact sectors such as payments, banking, remittance, or insurance, or a demonstrated capacity to quickly learn and adapt.
- Hands-on familiarity with large language model (LLM)-based AI products, including designing evaluable features, recognizing issues such as hallucinations and data gaps, and determining appropriate human-in-the-loop controls.
- Additional advantages include a background as an engineer or technical product manager, experience launching AI-centric consumer products, establishing evaluation metrics for ML/LLM systems, AI user experience insight, failure management expertise, and familiarity with the Southeast Asian market.
Key Outcomes Expected
- Development of clear vertical strategies and transparent roadmaps
- Rapid product delivery overcoming gating challenges
- Ensured accuracy of money-related data and clear communication to users regarding fund status
- Trustworthy and valuable AI-powered features
- Deliberate and defensible decision-making amid uncertain conditions
- Seamless collaboration among engineering, design, compliance, and operations
