Shift Supervisor

About the Role

McCain Foods is searching for a Shift Supervisor to join their production team in Timaru, Canterbury, New Zealand. This hands-on position supports daily shift operations and acts as a key second-in-charge to the Shift Manager. Though it has no direct reports, the role plays an essential part in guiding the team, aiding performance, and leading the shift when necessary. This opportunity is tailored for someone eager to develop leadership skills and progressively take on Shift Manager duties with support.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate personnel, equipment, and resources to meet production goals.
• Serve as the second-in-command, leading the shift in the Shift Manager’s absence.
• Lead by example on the production line with active engagement in processes and equipment.
• Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring safe practices are followed consistently.
• Maintain compliance with food safety, quality standards, and site procedures such as HACCP and GMP.
• Collaborate closely with packing and processing teams to facilitate smooth product changeovers and operations.
• Utilize SAP and other relevant systems to accurately record and manage production activities.
• Assist with documentation, reporting, and administrative tasks during the shift.
• Coach and support team members to foster accountability and collaboration.
• Identify and promote continuous improvements in safety, quality, and productivity.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience working in manufacturing or production environments; FMCG or food processing experience is highly valued but not mandatory.
• Proven ability to lead or influence teams without formal authority.
• A strong dedication to health and safety with confidence to act when necessary.
• Good knowledge of production operations and quality assurance standards.
• Comfortable working with systems and technology, with SAP experience preferred.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate across diverse teams.
• A proactive, hands-on mindset, comfortable working on the production floor.
• Motivated to achieve high standards of safety, quality, and output.
