Shift Lead

Job Overview

The Shift Lead takes responsibility for opening and closing the store when management is unavailable, handling all system startups, cash procedures, and making sure the store floor and stockroom are prepared for daily operations. This person also manages the back door for deliveries.

Customer Interaction

Engage with customers and patients by greeting and assisting them with product or service inquiries. Handle customer issues and questions effectively to guarantee a positive shopping experience. Demonstrate exemplary customer service behaviors and train team members on best practices including courteous greetings, eye contact, and proactive help.

Operational Duties

• Hold store keys to facilitate store opening and closing as needed.
• Support and coach team members through warehouse and vendor ordering steps, including managing incoming deliveries.
• Ensure accurate sales registration including managing scanning errors, price checks, price adjustments, voids, and cash handling processes.
• Assist management in reviewing order exceptions, reverse logistics tasks, and merchandise display set-ups, including seasonal and promotional layouts.
• Maintain accurate inventory counts across basic departments, stockroom, and overstock areas.
• Enforce product outdate programs and correct product rotation using first-in, first-out principles.
• Implement pricing tasks, daily price changes, and proper signage in compliance with local regulations.
• Carry out bookkeeping activities such as cash reporting, cash counts, ledger upkeep, and bill payments as requested.
• Support upkeep of store cleanliness and organization, including reporting maintenance needs when management is not present.
• Ensure proper separation and placement of food items according to policy and rotate stock correctly.
• Operate store systems and equipment efficiently.
• Assist at the pharmacy window when needed.
• Oversee compliance with laws governing regulated products like alcohol and tobacco.
• Perform team member bag checks prior to store exit.
• Adhere to all company policies, foster respectful coworker relationships, and complete special tasks as assigned.

Training and Communication

• Participate in training sessions and complete assigned personal professional learning modules (PPLs).
• Act as a communication link between management and staff during management absence, assigning tasks and reporting disciplinary or customer issues.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year experience in a leadership, supervisory, or key holder retail role.
• Fluency in English reading, writing, and speaking (applicable except Puerto Rico).

Preferred

• Familiarity with store inventory control systems.
• Employment consideration given regardless of arrest or conviction records.
• Maintenance of PTCB certification or required pharmacy licensing as applicable.
