Sheriff's Officer

Position Overview

The Government of Manitoba invites applications for the role of Sheriff's Officer based in The Pas, Manitoba. This part-time term position offers the possibility of transition to full-time employment and is under the Manitoba Justice, Sheriff Services, Courts division. The hourly wage ranges between $27.97 and $34.86 plus a remoteness allowance if applicable.

Primary Responsibilities

• Escort, guard, transport, and supervise individuals who are in custody ensuring their proper control.
• Maintain order, security, and appropriate behavior in court settings as required.
• Support the enforcement of legal writs and court orders such as seizures and evictions.
• Deliver official court documents.
• Apprehend individuals subject to bench warrants.

Additional conditions include:

• Legal authorization to work in Canada.
• Completion and satisfactory results of an enhanced Level IV security check including Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, and Adult & Child Abuse Registry checks prior to training.
• Medical fitness assessed as satisfactory before beginning training.
• Possession of a valid Manitoba Full Class 4 Driver's License (4F).
• Valid First Aid and CPR Level C certifications prior to employment offer.
• Ability to travel within Manitoba, including by small aircraft.
• Flexibility to work extended and irregular hours including on short notice.

Training and Selection Process

A paid, mandatory training course lasting approximately 3-4 weeks (Monday to Friday full days) must be successfully completed. Participants receive a daily stipend of $70 if attendance is maintained throughout training. Medical fitness clearance and required licenses and certificates are prerequisites before employment offers can be finalized.

Applicants will be screened requiring submission of an Application Screening Form and resume. Successful candidates at this stage must provide receipts for registry checks prior to interviews. Drivers Abstract and all relevant clearances must be submitted or their proof of request at interview time.
