Role Summary

The Senior Sorting Hub Operator plays a critical role in managing daily operations at the sorting hub, ensuring shipments are sorted, handled, and processed efficiently, while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise sorting hub operators to guarantee effective sorting and processing of shipments.
• Ensure that scanning occurs promptly at all stages during shipment movements, keeping tracking systems up to date.
• Support achievement of same-day shipping goals for all Jumia Express packages.
• Organize and direct staff assignments, prioritize workloads, and optimize workflows within the sorting hub.
• Coordinate pickup cutoff times with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and internal fleet services.
• Train, mentor, and oversee operators ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
• Monitor operational equipment and machinery, identify maintenance needs, and arrange repairs.
• Perform routine quality reviews and inspections of sorted parcels.
• Manage exceptions and resolve issues related to delayed or mismatched shipments during transit.
• Troubleshoot operational problems and respond to related inquiries.
• Maintain detailed records of sorting activities including shipment volumes and processing durations.
• Collaborate with logistics, warehouse, and customer service teams to coordinate inbound and outbound shipments.
• Implement ongoing process improvements to enhance sorting efficiency.
• Foster a workplace culture emphasizing safety, quality, and collaboration among team members.

Candidate Profile

• Experience in sorting hub operations, logistics, or warehouse management with proven leadership capabilities.
• Competency in handling sorting equipment such as conveyors, scanners, and automated sorting systems.
• Strong organizational skills paired with effective problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with technology tools used for shipment tracking, monitoring, and reporting.
• Understanding of safety standards and best practices relevant to sorting hub operations.
• Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
• Must hold NYSC certificate or a valid exemption letter.
• Residence based in Port Harcourt is required.
