Senior Manager – Platform Engineering & Automation

About the Role

This role focuses on transforming platform engineering capabilities by architecting robust microservices platforms, leading AI-driven software innovation, and enforcing high engineering standards. The Senior Manager will act as a Product Owner to manage multi-cloud lifecycle operations and champion agile governance, while providing mentorship and leadership for a distributed team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the transition from localized scripting to building resilient microservices platforms from scratch.
• Mentor engineers to adopt advanced software designs, clean coding standards, and modern platform architecture.
• Promote an AI-first culture by evaluating AI integration in automation, balancing delivery acceleration with security and operational risks.
• Implement rigorous software engineering principles, quality metrics, and test automation frameworks.
• Oversee internal infrastructure and security delivery platforms as Product Owner, manage roadmaps, sprint planning, and backlog grooming.
• Manage full lifecycle operations of compute instances across public cloud and hybrid environments.
• Collaborate with Security and Application teams to design scalable platform integrations addressing operational challenges.
• Provide strategic coaching to engineering managers transitioning from individual contributor roles.
• Foster systemic problem solving for scalability across multi-cloud/hybrid environments.
• Lead and coordinate a geographically distributed engineering team across two locations.

Skills and Experience Required

• Proven leadership in building internal platform engineering teams from the ground up.
• Solid architecture expertise in microservices and contemporary application delivery methods.
• Hands-on coding and review experience in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript/React.
• Strategic experience advocating Golang and Kubernetes-native developments.
• Extensive operational experience managing infrastructure lifecycles on AWS and hybrid/on-premises solutions such as VMware.
• Proficient in mentoring DevOps/SysAdmin teams to become skilled platform engineers.
• Strong conceptual and practical knowledge of AI/ML integration, capable of critically evaluating AI use cases in engineering contexts.
• Experience as a Product Owner or deep involvement in Agile/Scrum processes managing backlogs and roadmaps.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and coach engineering managers effectively.
• Exceptional communication skills to bridge technical and operational stakeholder groups.

Educational Background

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related technical discipline.
