Senior Database Administrator

Job purpose

HBKU is seeking a senior database professional to oversee administration support across its database environment. The role covers Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL systems, with responsibility for keeping databases dependable, continuously available, scalable, high-performing, and secure.

Key responsibilities

This position focuses on administering and supporting enterprise databases, including installation, setup, optimization, and ongoing management. The role also includes strengthening database resilience through disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

Required experience and qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in a technology-related discipline from an accredited college or university.
• Between 6 and 8 years of experience in academic and research application development.
• Practical experience with installing, configuring, tuning, and managing Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
• Strong capability in designing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity processes for enterprise database environments.
• Working knowledge of system design principles.
• Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and refine reports and other professional communications.
• Clear and concise verbal and written articulation of ideas.
• Arabic language skills are beneficial.
• Proficiency in MS Office tools.

Additional knowledge preferred

• Exposure to Power BI, data marts, and data lakes is considered an advantage.
• Familiarity with AI tools and generative AI is a plus.
