Senior Database Administrator / Database Engineer

About the Role

Snoonu seeks an experienced Senior Database Administrator / Database Engineer to take full ownership of our data infrastructure, ensuring robust reliability, optimal performance, and seamless scalability for a high-traffic super-app platform. You'll collaborate actively with backend developers, SREs, and system architects to design, maintain, and enhance our complex database systems across various technologies.

Main Responsibilities

• Architect, manage, and tune relational and non-relational databases, including PostgreSQL, BigQuery, MongoDB, and key-value stores like Redis and DynamoDB.
• Deliver high system availability with durable backup, restore, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Monitor and analyze database performance (latency, throughput), implement efficiency improvements in queries and indexing, and optimize slow SQL operations and data access patterns.
• Lead schema and data model design for evolving requirements, handling migrations and ensuring consistent, reliable data across services.
• Plan for database capacity and execute vertical and horizontal scaling strategies.
• Implement policies to enforce data integrity, retention, and consistency, including in distributed and microservices architectures.
• Contribute to database cost management and automation of tasks such as backups, failovers, and routine maintenance.
• Enforce robust security protocols, regulate access controls, support compliance efforts, and participate actively in incident response and root cause investigations.

Required Experience & Skills

• 5+ years of relevant experience as a DBA or Database Engineer managing production-grade systems.
• Mastery in administering PostgreSQL (indexing, MVCC, vacuuming, partitioning, replication), and advanced expertise with MongoDB (replica sets, sharding, optimization).
• Hands-on knowledge of key-value data stores such as Redis or DynamoDB.
• Strong understanding of query optimization, execution planning, transaction models, and indexing methods.
• Demonstrated experience running and troubleshooting high-load environments.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructures—preferably AWS—and monitoring tools like Datadog or Prometheus.
• Solid problem-solving capabilities for tuning and operational troubleshooting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven platforms (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Proficiency in database migration tools and services (e.g., AWS Database Migration Service), scripting, and automation with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
• Understanding of advanced patterns such as caching, CQRS, or eventual consistency.
• Experience with containers and orchestrators such as Kubernetes or ECS, and a background in supporting e-commerce or massively scalable applications.
