Residential Collection Driver

About the Role

GFL Environmental invites applications for a Class 3 Residential Driver to join their Residential Collection team based in Hanna, Alberta. This demanding role focuses on servicing over 1,000 residential homes daily by lifting and loading waste carts using an automated loading arm into collection trucks. Candidates should expect a fast-paced work environment requiring substantial coordination, repetitive physical tasks, route planning, and a strong commitment to safety under various weather conditions. The job covers servicing multiple neighboring communities during the week.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely collect and load recycling waste carts into the truck hopper throughout the workday.
• Operate automatic side-load residential waste trucks and manage hydraulic hopper compaction functions.
• Continuously evaluate hazards and changing conditions while servicing a large number of homes daily.
• Identify and tag prohibited waste items and communicate infractions to supervisors.
• Adhere to personal protective equipment requirements at all times.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain daily logs.
• Report any mechanical issues promptly to maintenance staff.
• Comply fully with all safety regulations and standards.
• Support tasks such as overflow routes, yard duties, and other assignments as needed.

Candidate Requirements

• Possess a valid Class 3Q (airbrake) or higher operator’s license with a clean 5-year commercial driving record.
• Demonstrate excellent physical endurance and a positive attitude for demanding repetitive work.
• Be adaptable to early start times and extended workdays.
• Capable of operating trucks and automated side-load equipment safely.
• Meet company safety-sensitive function standards.
