Job description

Overview

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking a dedicated Railroad Flagger to ensure on-track safety by managing train movements and adhering to federal safety regulations. This role supports various rail operations including Class 1 Railroads, regional short lines, transit authorities, state transportation departments, and contractors.

Job Responsibilities

  • Organize site activities and coordinate among all involved parties.
  • Maintain clear communication with dispatchers, train crews, rail staff, and contractors.
  • Conduct safety briefings prior to work commencement.
  • Enforce compliance with all pertinent rail, state, and federal safety rules.
  • Ensure contractors fulfill their required training obligations.
  • Identify and respond to any violations of safety regulations.
  • Document daily work progress through reports.
  • Sustain on-track safety conditions consistent with federal guidelines.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of two years' experience in roles within a Class 1 Railroad, regional short line, transit system, state railroad division, railroad supplier, contractor, or consultant, preferably in Maintenance Of Way (MOW).
  • Proficient with basic computer applications including Citrix, email, phone, and texting platforms.
  • Comfortable operating Android tablets and smartphones.
  • Strong organizational aptitude with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Foundational knowledge of railroad engineering, design, construction, and safety protocols.
  • Capability to establish and maintain productive client relationships.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, often for extended periods.
  • Successful completion of necessary federal, client, and company safety training programs.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily field-based work environment.
  • Must be physically able to stand for lengthy durations and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Good vision capability required, including near, far, color, and peripheral sight.
  • Exposure to varied weather conditions, noisy and dusty surroundings.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Travel or long-distance driving is a frequent job component.
