Role Summary
This position as part of the Waihi North Project team is responsible for managing the Structural, Mechanical, and Piping (SMP) aspects of the project from initial planning through execution and project handover. The role requires ensuring that SMP deliverables meet safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements while coordinating between contractors, engineering teams, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate SMP project stages including engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning.
- Critically assess designs, specifications, and work scopes for constructability, compliance, and project alignment.
- Facilitate collaboration between structural, mechanical, piping, civil, electrical, and operations teams to optimize project delivery.
- Supervise SMP construction activities ensuring adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and approved scopes.
- Assist in developing construction documentation such as work packs, methodologies, lift studies, shutdown plans, and connection strategies.
- Manage contractor and vendor activities onsite, including scheduling, sequencing, and resolving on-field challenges.
- Participate in risk reviews, constructability assessments, hazard identification (HAZID/HAZOP) activities, and ensure implementation of risk controls related to SMP work.
- Maintain detailed SMP schedules and execution plans for assigned portions of the project.
- Provide regular updates on progress, material quantities, expected completion dates, and any risks to the Project Manager.
- Address technical inquiries, oversee field change requests, manage non-conformance reports, and close out engineering and construction actions.
- Develop strong ongoing relationships with the Site Operations Team to enable continuity beyond the project lifespan.
- Uphold all safety standards diligently during work execution.
Qualifications and Experience
- A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Project management, site safety, or construction management training is highly advantageous.
- Experience in contract administration, technical documentation, and supervising contractors is preferable.
- Minimum five years of experience in project engineering, construction, or site execution roles focusing on structural, mechanical, and piping scopes.
- Proven capability managing contractors and coordinating multidisciplinary teams delivering brownfield or greenfield capital projects in industrial environments.
- Experience in managing contractor workforce operations onsite.
