Job Overview
The company is looking for a diligent and detail-focused Production Planner I to join its manufacturing operations team. The key responsibility is to create and maintain effective production schedules that meet customer demands while maximizing inventory management, production capacity, workforce use, and material availability. Collaboration across various departments including Sales, Operations, Purchasing, Finance, and Technical teams is essential. The role also supports continuous improvement initiatives within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and update ongoing production schedules for manufacturing processes.
- Utilize ERP/MRP systems to issue and manage production orders.
- Assess production plans to detect risks and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Oversee inventory levels and ensure accuracy in inventory records.
- Coordinate with Customer Service to define feasible shipment dates and communicate scheduling issues proactively.
- Collaborate with production supervisors and operators to ensure compliance with planned schedules.
- Review and enhance planning procedures and tools, suggesting and applying improvements.
- Manage material transfers between manufacturing locations as needed.
- Investigate production and inventory challenges and implement solutions.
- Compare actual production output against planned schedules and monitor performance.
A Day in the Role
Daily tasks involve reviewing production schedules generated overnight, analyzing production performance metrics, pinpointing areas for improvement, adjusting production plans, and working closely with production teams on the manufacturing floor to ensure plans are followed effectively.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Statistics, Supply Chain or related fields; equivalent professional experience also considered.
- Between 1 to 3 years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or inventory control.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP software (Epicor preferred or similar systems).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong analytical and critical problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in manufacturing environments.
- APICS certification is advantageous.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, productivity metrics, and operational efficiency.
- Experience coordinating with production personnel and cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to influence decisions and outcomes.

Successful candidates will rapidly adapt to the production planning workflow, develop strong collaborative relationships throughout the manufacturing facility, and actively contribute to enhancing scheduling precision, inventory control, and operational effectiveness.
Work Environment
This position involves time both in office settings and on the manufacturing floor, which exposes employees to typical manufacturing conditions such as machinery noise, varying temperatures, and physical production activity. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be required when on the floor.
