Procurement & Material Engineer

About the Role

The Procurement & Material Engineer will oversee the procurement process for construction materials, equipment, and services ensuring compliance with project specifications, approved budgets, and schedules. This includes managing supplier sourcing, quotation evaluations, material approvals, purchase order issuance, and delivery coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze project Bill of Quantities (BOQ), drawings, specifications, material schedules, and Material Requisitions to ascertain procurement needs.
• Issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to approved and potential suppliers and subcontractors.
• Gather and assess quotations, preparing technical and commercial comparison reports for managerial approval.
• Collaborate with Technical, Engineering, QA/QC, and Project teams to certify materials meet project standards.
• Assist in preparation and tracking of Material Submittals, samples, technical data sheets, certificates, and other documentation for client and consultant approvals.
• Identify and source appropriate suppliers and alternative materials meeting technical and quality requirements.
• Engage in negotiations on pricing, payment terms, delivery timelines, warranties, and commercial terms under senior oversight.
• Create Purchase Orders ensuring proper approvals and documentation are in place.
• Track supplier progress on material approvals, production, availability, and delivery schedules.
• Coordinate with Site, Logistics, and Warehouse teams to guarantee timely material delivery aligned with project needs.
• Monitor procurement and delivery timetables, flagging any potential issues that could disrupt project operations.
• Liaise with Finance and Accounts departments on supplier invoices and payment processing.
• Maintain detailed procurement records including logs, material tracking sheets, supplier databases, quotations, and Purchase Orders.
• Participate in evaluating and developing suppliers and subcontractors.
• Support Procurement Management and senior team with daily procurement tasks and reporting.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related engineering fields.
• Experience ranging from none to four years in procurement, material engineering, or related roles within the construction or contracting sector.
• Fresh graduates with strong engineering foundations and interest in procurement encouraged to apply.
• Basic knowledge of construction materials, drawings, BOQ, specifications, and material approval processes.
• Familiarity with procurement workflows including RFQs, quotation comparisons, Purchase Orders, and delivery follow-ups.
• Experience with ERP or procurement systems such as Oracle is advantageous.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suites, particularly Excel.
