Principal Instrument Engineer

Job Overview

The role is for a seasoned Instrumentation and Control (I&C) professional entrusted with leading execution strategies, formulating execution plans, overseeing interface coordination, managing foundational data and design philosophies, and controlling project risks. The candidate will identify potential project risks and implement measures to mitigate them suitably.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage in communication and coordination with the CLIENT regarding I&C design philosophies and technical challenges, devising applicable solutions.
• Collaborate with the CLIENT, third parties, and align with national and local regulations to resolve issues and finalize review comments.
• Handle review tasks for technical tender documentation, provide technical clarifications, and prepare or evaluate Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs).
• Conduct technical training sessions and offer guidance to designers, ensuring a minimum of six sessions or 20 hours of instruction annually.
• Manage other tasks related to the role as assigned by the company.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification.
• Over 12 years of experience in I&C design for offshore fixed platforms or floating oil and gas production units, with at least 5 years spent on international projects. Preference will be given to those with Middle East project experience (such as ADNOC, QatarEnergy, Saudi Aramco).
• Experience with internationally reputed engineering firms (e.g., Technip, Worley, Wood, Flour, McDermott) is advantageous.
• Deep familiarity with I&C systems including DCS, SIS, FGS, HIPS, wellhead control panels, oil and gas custody transfer, control valves, ESDVs, flowmeters; technical standards and methodologies such as SIL, HAZOP, fire and gas mapping, cyber security; as well as compliance with industry regulations and standards like IEC, ISO, EN, API, NFPA, ASME, ANSI, ISA, NEMA, AGA, ASTM, Shell DEP, BP, TOTAL, NORSOK.
• Strong command over international project design procedures, with capabilities in developing and managing technical solutions, swift issue resolution, and effective risk control.

Behavioral and Technical Skills

• Proficiency with instrument control design software such as SPI, INSTRUCALC, and AutoCAD, alongside widespread office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Exemplify diligence, thoroughness, and a strong sense of responsibility. Willingness to work overtime as per project requirements.
• Extensive experience providing technical support at shipyards or on-site, including availability for domestic or international business travels and overseas assignments as per project necessity.
• Fluent English communication skills including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Preference for native English speakers.
