Role Overview

The Paint & Body SERP Engineer will collaborate closely with the commercial and aftersales teams, serving as the advocate for customers throughout the vehicle life cycle—from early design phases through production and aftersales service. This role involves evaluating design proposals, repair procedures, and engineering changes to enhance serviceability, improve repair efficiency, and reduce warranty expenses.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain INEOS Body Repair Operating Standards and identify approved paint refinishing material suppliers.
• Support departments like Special Vehicle Operations in Body in White (BIW) repair strategies for modified vehicles.
• Approve tooling for spot/seam welding, structural repairs, smart repairs, riveting, and compliant products corresponding to manufacturing equivalents.
• Develop and audit the approved repairer network and designate a damage assessment estimating platform provider.
• Assist in shaping body repair training courses and liaise with insurance companies on vehicle repairability and insurance classifications.
• Provide data for vehicle crash testing and oversee responses to BIW Engineering Change Requests and Orders affecting aftersales.
• Investigate BIW component issues and manage relationships with suppliers and partners.
• Work with Aftersales Parts Managers on part service levels and market release.
• Represent aftersales in developing service assembly breakdowns, service cut strategies, joining methodologies, and warranty paint refinishing scopes for existing and upcoming models.
• Review and approve body repair procedures and contribute to terminology databases adhering to SAE standards.
• Identify design-for-service improvements, ensuring minimal vehicle downtime and customer satisfaction.
• Manage tooling and ergonomic feasibility for repair procedures and evaluate packaging and access for components through digital analysis.
• Provide technical support by reviewing technical service publications and training materials, ensuring accuracy in repair instructions.
• Collaborate with commercial managers to identify opportunities to reduce labor times on warranty repairs and conduct physical evaluations on prototype vehicles.
• Coordinate cross-divisional teams to develop service solutions within established SLAs.
• Report SERP topics to management across multiple business units and contribute constructively in team meetings and operational reviews.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

• Extensive experience (8–10 years) as a SERP engineer, preferably with knowledge of modern mechanical, electrical, and body & paint repair processes.
• Proficiency or significant experience with CAD tools is mandatory.
• Strong diagnostic and repair knowledge of vehicle systems, workshop operations, and current vehicle technologies.
• Competence in IT tools and ability to deliver presentations across organizational levels.
• A commitment to continuous improvement with a Kaizen mindset.
• Capable of working effectively both in-office and in field teams with strong customer-focused service excellence.
• Exceptional customer service skills, fostering relationships across departments and functions.
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally as required.
