Karara Mining Limited (KML) is a joint venture between Ansteel Group, one of the largest steel producers in China, and Gindalbie Metals Limited. Situated 200 km southeast of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the Mid-West region's largest mining operation and home to the first major magnetite mine. The mine produces a premium, high-grade concentrate mainly for export to steelmakers.

Position Overview

We are recruiting experienced Operator Maintainers to join our operations team at the Geraldton Karara Export Terminal. In this role, reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you will ensure operational activities comply with site standards related to efficiency, safety, and quality. This position follows a sportsman roster: 2 days and 2 nights working followed by 5 days off; 2 days and 3 nights followed by 4 days off; and 3 days and 2 nights followed by 5 days off.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks as assigned, ensuring all work meets manufacturer specifications and quality standards.
• Identify, monitor, and report workplace issues or operational risks proactively.
• Share technical expertise and knowledge with team members for continuous improvement.
• Develop and enhance job procedures related to various maintenance activities.
• Promote a culture focused on continuous improvement and participate actively in development programs to broaden competencies.
• Attend training sessions to support professional development.
• Exemplify safety-first behavior in all workplace activities.
• Support the development, coaching, and mentoring of apprentices, contractors, and coworkers.

Essential Requirements

• Possession of a Western Australian C-Class Driver's Licence.
• High Risk Work Licence.
• Qualifications in Dogging (DG) and Basic Rigging (RB).
• Certification in Elevated Work Platform (WP), Working at Heights, and Confined Space entry.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in port operations and process plant equipment.
• Familiarity with general fixed plant policies, procedures, and scheduled maintenance systems.
• Strong skills in problem-solving investigations and operational planning aligned with predicted requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer software.
• Australian citizenship or a valid visa allowing employment in Australia.
• Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance to secure Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
• Applicants must reside in the Geraldton area to be eligible for this role.

About Karara Export Terminal

The Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton is supported by an 80 km railway connecting the mine site to Tilley Junction in the Shire of Perenjori. The terminal has the capacity to process up to 16 million tonnes of export products annually through a dedicated berth with comprehensive rail and train unloading infrastructure.
