Job Overview

The role of the Mechanical Site Engineer involves overseeing and executing all mechanical tasks at substation project sites. The engineer ensures that the mechanical installation, inspection, and commissioning activities align with the design, safety, and project timeline requirements. The position demands active site coordination and collaboration with contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams to guarantee smooth project progression.

Primary Duties

• Supervise daily mechanical operations at the substation site ensuring proper installation of systems including transformer cooling, firefighting, HVAC, piping, pumps, and oil handling equipment as per approved plans and specifications.
• Monitor contractor work and optimize resource usage.
• Verify accurate alignment, leveling, and quality installation of mechanical machinery.
• Ensure adherence to project schedules and milestones for mechanical activities.
• Manage installation, testing, and commissioning phases for all mechanical equipment.
• Collaborate with vendors and specialists throughout equipment setup and commissioning, performing pre-commissioning checks and troubleshooting any mechanical issues.
• Maintain detailed records and reports related to commissioning procedures.
• Implement quality control by inspecting work compliance with specifications, method statements, and industry standards; conducting routine inspections and generating reports.
• Raise and follow up on site observations to maintain quality assurance.
• Coordinate with QA/QC teams during inspections and ensure material deliveries meet technical standards.
• Facilitate interdisciplinary coordination with electrical, civil, and other teams as well as liaise with subcontractors and consultants.
• Participate in regular site meetings, communicate progress, and resolve site conflicts alongside the engineering group.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, promote PPE use, perform safety checks, conduct toolbox talks, identify hazards, and report incidents promptly.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation including daily reports, material inspection reports, work inspection records, drawings, as-built documentation, and site instructions.

Qualifications and Expertise

• Possess a Bachelor's degree or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Have between 3 to 7 years of mechanical site execution experience, preferably in high-voltage substations (132kV to 400kV).
• Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems employed in substations such as HVAC, firefighting, and oil handling.
• Capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and layouts.
• Familiar with technical standards including IEC, NFPA, and relevant local codes.
• Understand installation, testing, and commissioning procedures.
