Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled Building Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience to join our Edmonton, Alberta office. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing mechanical building systems and mentoring junior engineers and designers. This role will involve working on complex projects within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and food sectors.
Responsibilities
- Create conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs, drawings, and specifications for various systems including HVAC, dust collection, chilled and heating water systems, steam, compressed air, controls, and plumbing.
- Design and detail building mechanical systems ensuring compliance with energy efficiency standards.
- Conduct engineering studies, schematic designs, and analyze existing system operations.
- Perform site surveys, improve existing installations, and devise new solutions considering the existing infrastructure.
- Estimate construction budgets for mechanical systems installations.
- Participate in site supervision and support construction activities.
- Manage MEP projects by breaking down requirements, collaborating with project managers on scope, budget, and staffing.
- Develop strong client relationships to thoroughly understand their requirements.
- Ensure high technical quality in deliverables and coordinate interdisciplinary project inputs.
- Contribute to the training, mentoring, and development of the mechanical engineering team.
- Manage and quality review project deliverables and execution.
- Define scope of work for mechanical and utility designs after client consulting and preliminary evaluations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Current professional engineering registration (P.Eng) with EGBC, APEGA, or APEGS.
- Consulting engineering experience in food and beverage or pharmaceutical manufacturing industries is advantageous.
- At least 5 years of design engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with HVAC systems design and central utilities such as steam, chilled water, and compressed air systems.
- Experience designing material handling and dust collection systems is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Revit software.
